Boulder County Public Lands and Trails - 2009

More than two thirds of Boulder County is in public ownership or has been otherwise protected from development. The Federal government, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, and Boulder City Open Space and Mountain Parks are the primary land owners.

There are more than 400 miles of trails on these public lands. A bit more than two hundred trail miles are opened to bikes. Of the major land management agencies, Boulder County Parks and Open Space is the most generous to bikes, while Boulder City Open Space and Mountain Parks has offered the fewest riding opportunities.

BMA works with all the agencies to secure and maintain bike access. We are happy to report that our efforts have been rewarded. All the agencies have recently created new trails opened to bikes. There are more underway.
